Read: Proverbs 16:16-22 / 1 Kings 12:1-17
Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
Proverbs 16:19 KJV
Our desire to get the approval of others can make us do strange things.
We find ourselves trying to keep up with all the trends that are currently in place.
Many of them we may not even like or need.
There are times when we realize the crowd we are choosing to follow has encouraged us to do what is wrong.
In 1 Kings 12, we see where King Rehoboam, gave way to the pressures set forth by the people.
He did not listen to the wise advice that was given by the older wise men who had known his father, David.
The one who knew the mistakes he had made as king.
He instead listened to the younger advisors.
The ones he had grown up with.
The ones whose motivation was probably motivated by pride and a desire for power.
He was definitely swayed by their influence.
It was a deadly mistake that he paid for.
We are not to let the pressures of this world influence us.
Even though it comes at us from all sides.
By the Word we have the ability to choose the right path to take.
That is why we are told:
“Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. Proverbs 16:19 KJV.
That spiritually we are to keep our distance from every appearance of evil.
We are to associate ourselves with those who have God-given wisdom and knowledge.
To take the path that pleases our Father in Heaven.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, help us to have a humble spirit. One that recognizes when evil is at hand. Keeping us from following the ways of the world and all the harm that can come with it. We want to listen to what You are saying and what You have ordained for our lives. Let us always remember to seek You first. Knowing that You always have someone who is humble and good. Someone who knows what it means to seek You for the wisdom and knowledge we all need. Thank You for being there for us.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
