Read: Leviticus 19:13-19 / James 3:1-10
Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:16 KJV
All over the world there is someone who is only interested in spreading gossip or rumors.
They take pleasure in what they are saying and doing.
They have no concerns about the effect it may have on others.
For many, they do so in order to direct attention away from themselves.
From all the things not pleasing in their lives.
According to the Bible, they are considered “talebearers.”
“A talebearer revealeth secret” (Proverbs 11:13 KJV).
Telling others about things not meant to be known.
How they are to be “he that is of a faithful spirit [and] concealeth the matter” (Proverbs 11:13 KJV).
To think about things before we do them.
Because once we do it, it cannot be undone.
In James 3:1-10 KJV, the Father warns us about being a talebearer.
He has told us that we are to dread an unruly tongue.
How it is to be seen as one of the greatest evils.
Knowing that it is something that can bring more harm than good.
That it continues to open the door to more sinful ways.
He has warned us that no man can tame their own tongue.
No matter how hard we may try, something can cause us to say something wrong.
As followers of Christ, when we find ourselves heading in this direction, we can pray as David prayed.
Asking the Savior to, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Psalms 141:3 KJV).
His desire is for our words to be ones of comfort, praise, and cheer.
It cannot be done without His Divine grace and assistance.
It cannot be done without the power of His Divine Word.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know the words we speak have great meaning. By Your Divine grace may we take note of what we say. That our words be just as You have spoken to us. That they are a blessing and not a curse to one another. That they be words of comfort, praise, and cheer. Thank You for how You encourage us so we can encourage each other.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
