Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.
1 Samuel 7:12 KJV
Throughout history we can see that there have been many who have stepped into a leadership role.
They have fought for the rights of all humanity.
There are some who have gained the privilege of having a monument built on their behalf.
But know that even if a monument was not built, the Lord still recognizes their efforts for good.
In this passage, we read that thousands of years ago the Prophet Samuel did such a thing.
He had heard how the Philistines were about to attack Israel.
The people of Israel knew he was a man of God.
They came to him to seek help from God.
Samuel stood on faith and set up a burnt offering, as the Philistines were drawing near.
He was gearing up for Philistines attempt to start a battle against Israel.
While during his prayers, “the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines.”
He “discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel” (1 Samuel 7:10 KJV).
With heartfelt gratitude, Samuel set up a small memorial stone.
He “set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer.”
Meaning, “Hitherto hath the LORD helped us” (1 Samuel 7:12 KJV).
It is of great comfort to all who believe to know that we have a great Intercessor that never ceases to be there for us.
He hears and answers our prayers.
He will always make a way out of no way.
Samuel is one of many in the Bible who have set an example regarding what we might encounter on our spiritual journey.
Like Samuel and others, there are ways we can make a memorial of God’s great works.
We may not be able to erect one made of stone, but we can keep a journal.
One that shows all our spiritual journeys and all the blessings He has given us.
The questions and answers to the many prayers we put forth.
And even if we are not ones who like to write, we can keep them in our hearts and mind.
Still always being able to reflect on them.
We can use them as reminders of God’s faithfulness.
To help us be even more willing to worship and serve Him.
We can be living testimonies of all He has done for us.
Letting others know that He is always there to help us even to the end of time.
Every day is a good day to show gratitude.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, as we journey through life, we will face obstacles. Those are the times when we must stand on the Word and remember all the times You have brought followers in the Bible through things. The many times You have kept us from hurt, harm and danger. There is nothing too hard for You to oversee. With a glad heart we love and ‘Thank You” for it all.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
