Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. Exodus 20:17 KJV
There are those who will do anything they can to get what they want.
They see where others have something that is good.
They have an overwhelming desire to enjoy the same pleasure.
But what they are longing for may not be within their means at that time.
It is something they really do not have a need for but want it because someone else has it.
In the ninth commandment, the Father has a concern for our own and our neighbors well-being.
It is not only concerning our desire to have certain things,
It is forbidding us to speak falsely on any matter.
We are not to lie or use words that have more than one meaning. We say one thing but really mean something else.
We are not to devise or design anything to deceive our neighbor.
Keeping in mind that neighbor is not just the person who lives next door or in our neighborhood.
It is everybody that comes into our lives.
The commandment also tells us that we are not to speak unjustly of anyone.
We are not to do anything that will hurt their reputation to build on our own.
It is the Father’s desires that we have what we need.
We are not to let what He has kept from us keep us from enjoying all that He has given us (Hebrews 13:5 KJV).
He knows exactly what that need may be.
When we live Godly and content with what we have there is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6 KJV).
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, help us to remember that we are not to look for happiness in any way not pleasing to You. Help us to make the needed changes in our lives. We know that great gain comes when we live according to the Word. It is the only way.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
