And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:3 KJV
Charitable giving is one of generosity and helpfulness.
It is most shown towards those in need or are suffering.
It is done because we want the best for others.
All of us have the ability to show it.
Jesus taught us that we should give food to the hungry, shelter to those who have none, and clothes to the poor. That we should do these things for Him (Matthew 23:34-46).
That we should do it out of love.
What we do has more meaning when it is done out of unselfish love.
For those living according to the Word, charity is the highest form of love.
The greatest contribution of them all.
In First Corinthians 13, God has told us that our doing good to others has no meaning if it is not done from love to Him and towards men.
He has told us that “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil” (vv. 4-5).
We are not to look for acceptance and reward from others for our good works.
Knowing no matter how much we give, while we withhold our hearts from God, the goodness we are showing will not profit.
Charity has no meaning if it is not showing unselfish love.
The same love that is shared between God and man.
We must follow the great example of the Lord whose holy work was doing good.
All the sacrifices He made on our behalf.
The grace of love is something we all need and should be showing each other.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, being charitable is what You teach us in the Word. How it is one of the greatest ways for us to show love. That it means nothing if we don’t do it unselfishly. Let us remember all the examples You have set.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
