By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10 KJV
For centuries the Jewish people made animal sacrifices unto God to come into His presence and keep the law.
But “the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect” (v.1.)
“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (v.4).
Their sacrifices were not what God desired to receive from them.
It was not until Jesus’s journey to the cross that our sins were forgiven and our relationship with God restored.
This journey started down the Via Dolorosa.
It is a route through the Old City of Jerusalem.
It is known as the way of sorrow,
It is believed to be the path that Jesus walked to His crucifixion.
The writer of Hebrews saw the path that Jesus took was more than just a path of sorrows.
He said it was the way of suffering that Jesus endured as He carried the cross, walked to Calvary, hung, and died, making “a new and living way” for us to be in the presence of God (v. 20).
Because of His sacrifice, we can be made holy and receive forgiveness of our sins.
We will never be able to keep the law perfectly, but we can “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (v.22).
Knowing that when we repent of our sins, we can draw near to God without fear.
Fully confident that because of the sacrifice that Jesus made, the path has been laid for us live a life free from sin.
Christ’s way of sorrow made it possible for us to have a new and living way to God.
We have been made holy because of His sacrifice.
During this Holy Week, let us rejoice and give Him praise for the sacrifice He made.
He deserves it every day of our lives.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, we know that the sacrifice You made for our sins was a blessing. Not only do we celebrate it during this Holy Week, but every day of our lives. We thank You for making a way for us to be forgiven and one day live with our Father, in Heaven. Thank You for all You have done and doing for us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
