Today’s Reading: 2 Peter 5-10
Today’s Verse: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 KJV
We know that a promise is defined as a definite statement or commitment to do, or not do something in the future.
In the Bible, we know it is a solemn declaration or binding assurance given by God. It is rooted in His unchanging character. It is often tied to a covenant.
In today’s passage, we read that God is patient and does not delay His promises. He gives each of us time to turn away from sin and find salvation.
There are times we feel that God is late or ignoring promises. Those are the times we have to remember that He operates outside of human timelines. His plans and schedule are infinitely higher and wiser than our own (Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV).
Patience during the wait builds strength and trust (Psalms 27:14 KJV). His delay is really an act of mercy and kindness. A way of giving us more time to change our hearts and minds.
It is a blessing to know that no one is excluded. Our Heavenly Father truly wants everyone to be saved. He doesn’t want anyone to be destroyed. He desires that everyone has a chance at salvation.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we give You the praise. Praise for the great patience You have towards us. You never give up on us. For Your deep desire that no one should perish. Forgive us for the times we grow impatient. Times when we wonder why things take so long in our lives and in the world to turn around. Help us to see things through Your eyes. Remembering that Your delays are an act of Your mercy and grace. We want our hearts to be like Yours. We want to have the patience, compassion, and eagerness to share the good news with those who have yet come to know You. Strengthen our faith, Lord. We want to be examples to lead others toward Your saving love while there is still time.
