Humble is Good

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. Proverbs 16:19 KJV

Just the other day I was having a conversation with some of my relatives.

We were talking about the younger generation.

Not just in our biological family but even those that are close like family.

How they are sometimes being pressured by their peers.

Resulting in them trying to fit in the best way they can.

A way that can cause them to wind up doing things the wrong way.

That is why our encouragement at a young age is good.

Teaching the ways of the Lord.

Granting them wisdom at an early age.

So when they are grown and responsible even more for the decisions they make, they will remember what they have been told.

Knowing that we all have made decisions that weren’t good.

Telling them what we learned from our parents and others in our lives.

How with what we learned, we began to make better decisions.

How we depended on the Lord, His Word and wisdom expressed by our parents.

It is a joy to have our children come to us and express thanks for all the wise advice they received.

Even though at the time they thought we were crazy and didn’t know what we were talking about.

To have those that have been brought into our lives in some way and express their gratitude for what we had previously told them.

If you don’t’ feel comfortable speaking about your circumstances, the Lord has given us many examples to use.

In this case, you can always use the story of King Rehoboam.

He was the King in First King 12 who gave in to people pressure.

He rejected the good advice of older wise men who had known his father David.

David had made many mistakes when he was king. So he had knowledge about many things.

Instead of listening to the advice of these wise men, Rehoboam took heed to the counsel of his peers.

His peers were motivated by pride and a desire for power.

It was obvious that he was swayed by their influence.

We have all been influenced by our peers, and had to learn how not to yield to peer pressure.

That it will lead us down a road of destruction.

A mistake Rehoboam made and had to pay for.

Any one of us can make the same mistake of listening to our peers and have to pay for it.

We should take seriously that which the Lord is telling us.

Listen to the testimonies of those who have already experienced many of the things that life presents.

All our circumstances can teach us humility.

When we start being too energetic and doing things out of sort, it makes God an enemy.

He that understands God’s Word shall find good in listening to Him.

Taking the way that pleases Him.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, we know that anyone who follows the crowd will soon get lost. We should seek You first in any situation and you will direct our paths in how to handle them. Let us not be too proud to seek Your help and guidance.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
