A promise can be defined as the declaration, manifestation or the assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.
Peter having stated the blessings to which God has called Christians, is strongly encouraging those who had received these precious gifts, to endeavor to improve in graces and virtues.
They are urged to get away from the wickedness of false teachers.
When we take God at His Word we feel His love towards us.
We are trusting what He says.
Thus giving us the ability to show faith and increase our ability to rest in what He says is true.
Faith worketh godliness and produces effects which no other grace in the soul can do.
God’s Word to us reveals His heart toward us.
I am thankful that the Scriptures are full of His promises. They are constant reminders that His compassion never fails. They are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, we don’t know where we would be if were not for Your “great and precious promises.” May we always recognize them and rest in what You say is true. Our desire is to experience the blessings You have in store for us.
