Looks Can Be Deceiving

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV

Has anyone checked the labels on their grocery items lately?

News reports tell us we may be getting less than we think.

They say some manufacturers are selling the same size packages that we are used to, but they are putting less of the product in them.

How something is wrapped can be misleading, because it doesn’t always show us what is on the inside.

That’s true about people as well.

We can tell how people look, but God can tell what they are.

People can wrap themselves up in the same packaging every day, yet still be less than what they appear to be.

It is a good thing that the Lord judges men by the heart, not their appearance.

Samuel’s was searching for a king to replace Saul.

While he was doing it, he was more interested in the packaging, but God was interested in contents.

God was looking deeper than outward appearances.

He knew that David had what it took to be king.

We live in a world that often measures the value of a product.

God values only the faith, fear and love we have, which are planted in the heart, beyond human discernment.

May we not get preoccupied with outward appearances and neglect what is on the inside.

In God’s eyes, it is the contents that counts.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, our reputation is what others think we are. We are so glad that our character is what You look to know who we are. Thank You for looking at the inner man and knowing our hearts.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
