But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. Luke 14:13-14 KJV
With the way the world is today, we can find it hard to know who we should attempt to assist.
Those are the times when we need to pray and ask the Lord to guide us in this decision.
He will place in our hearts the true direction we should take.
That is what He did with one of the chief Pharisees that had invited Him into his home to eat bread on the sabbath day.
He knew that they were watching Him (Luke 14:1 KJV).
The Pharisees and lawyers were trying to see if they could find something to hold against Him.
While the Savior was with him, there came a man with leprosy,
The Lord spoke to “the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go” (Luke 14:2-4).
He continued to speak parables unto them.
All done with the hopes of teaching them a valuable lesson.
One parable dealt with when making a list for a dinner party (Luke 14:12-14).
How our party should not be only for those friends, relatives, rich neighbors, or those who can pay us back.
That when we “makest a feast” we should include “the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.”
Jesus loves the less fortunate and desires the best for them as He does all of us.
With humanity, He wants us to have an open heart to be kind to one another and not expect anything in return.
He will show us who we may need to open our homes too.
But there are also many organizations that give aid to those in need.
Be it a food pantry or missionary work.
Take the time to volunteer.
Remembering that with any true sacrifice we make, the Savior assures us that He will bless, and God will reward us in the end.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we know that we are not to let pride bring us to a low estate. We are all objects of Your love and care. We are to show the same love to everyone, especially those in need. Let us continue to maintain a humble spirit. Always doing things according to Your example and the Word.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
