I read a story about a gentleman that had a birthmark on his face that bothered him greatly.
A surgeon had told him that they could do nothing to remove it.
The moment was described as the “dark hour of his soul.”
But he had someone by his side to encourage him.
Someone who reminded him that no matter what the doctor said or others saw, with God’s help he could find comfort.
That his mind and soul would grow so big that people would forget to look at his face.
I took it to mean, they were letting him know that no matter what he looked like, he was a person with a good character.
Someone who shows loyalty, honesty, and courage.
That no matter what his physical traits were, his inner trait was greater.
We all have an inner trait that shows more than our physical trait will ever show.
In today’s passage, Peter was writing about the beauty of the “hidden man of the heart.”
How, as women, we have an attractiveness of inner spiritual traits.
That even if we don’t feel we have the physical beauty we desire, we do have inner traits of beauty that can be seen.
With God’s help, we are able to develop qualities that outweigh any undesirable features.
He endows us with a beauty that overshadows any physical imperfections.
When we accept His ways, it allows us to put on a covering that beautifies the soul, and gifts us with the graces of God’s Holy Spirit.
We know that in this verse Peter was mainly speaking to women, but the appeal of inner spiritual characteristics is something that men should strive to obtain also.
Having a Christlike character is more desirable than the finest external physical features.
May our lives always show the peace of God, and the joy of the Lord.
The qualities that make us look our best!
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, beautiful souls are those that show Your Spirit wherever they go. May we be the one to show the peace, love and joy that You and the Father desire for us all. Nothing can hinder us when we exhibit the beauty that shines from within.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
