The world offers happiness through material acquisitions.
Things like, new clothes, a new car, updated cell phones or even a new watch.
The problem is, although they may be good, they don’t give us the lasting happiness we really desire.
Because things are constantly changing, it only lasts for a moment.
And in the end, we all know that we can’t take them with us.
Today’s verse is an example of what it means to put our trust in God and not in the things we may feel we need or desire.
One day Jesus was fasting and faint with hunger, Satan approached Him and tried to tempt Him to satisfy His hunger. He did it by creating bread.
Jesus countered this attempt.
Just like it is said in this passage, it is also noted in Matthew 4:4 KJV:
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
We have a human nature, but when we accept Christ things change in our lives.
We are changed spiritually and no longer exist on material things alone.
The word of God is the food of the soul.
Christ is the Word of God.
By and through Him we live.
Our true satisfaction can only be found in God.
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 KJV
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, let us take the time to realize that the material things in life will not provide us with happiness we desire forever. Teach us what it means to live by Your Word and obtain the riches You have for us. Riches that provide us with everything we need here on earth and even more in Heaven.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
