There will be times when someone refuses to listen to what you are saying.
They look like they are in a state of confusion.
It may be because they are broken and discouraged inside.
Moses had been expecting what God would do but now he would see what God would do.
He spoke to the children of Israel, but they didn’t listen because their spirits were broken, and their lives were hard.
They were discouraged. Which in Hebrew terms, means “short of breath.”
They were feeling this way because of their enslavement in Egypt.
It made it hard for them to listen to what Moses was trying to tell them.
To the point Moses had to have understanding and compassion with them.
He had to keep from expressing severe disapproval of their actions.
From our own experiences, we know this was not easy.
This is especially hard when it is a loved one or someone, we are very close too.
That is why Moses continued to share good words, and comfortable words, in the hope that they would revive the Israelites and make them forget their misery.
Unfortunately, they were so taken up with their troubles, that they did not heed God’s promises.
That is where we must learn to have patience.
This can be hard at times, but we must remember what God said.
God says, “Love is patient, love is kind.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV).
It is the willingness to wait because He has not completed the work on that individual.
He is still listening and helping them work through their sorrows.
Still listening to the love and care we are sending in our prayers.
We do all this in the hope that the person will learn that by indulging discontent and fretfulness, we deprive ourselves of the comfort we might have.
A comfort that comes both from God’s Word and from His protective care.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, it is profitable for us to place our confidence in You, not in ourselves, everything comes from You. Let us be willing to listen and really hear what You are trying to tell us. Remembering we can do nothing by ourselves, but we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
