For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews 11:10 KJV
The Bible tells us that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).
It helps us to overcome any fears.
It is the greatest way to overcome any situation we may face in life.
Faith is powerful.
It is the foundation that all our hopes and dreams are built on.
When we learn to step out in faith, our lives are so much better.
Abraham is just one example of what it means to exhibit faith.
One that focuses on our eternal home.
The Scriptures tell us, “By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country…for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Hebrews 11:9-10 KJV).
Abraham’s short stay was one of a travelling foreigner.
By faith he was looking for an eternal city constructed by God.
His faith was tried on many occasions, but he kept fully obeying the call of God.
He was a man of God who expressed the type of feelings we should have regarding our journey in life.
Reading the Word is our greatest source of the things in life we might face.
Living testimonies are another.
I was reading a devotional the other day.
It mentioned a gentleman by the name of Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ.
He had been diagnosed with a terminal disease called pulmonary fibrosis.
During his time of being bedridden he authored a book.
It was titled, The Journey Home – Finishing with Joy.
In his book he referenced a quote.
“May we live like strangers and make the world not a house, but an inn, in which we sup and lodge, expecting to be on our journey tomorrow” – Charles Hadden Spurgeon.
This reference hit home for Bright.
He made the comment, “Knowing that heaven is our real home makes it easier to pass through the tough times here on earth.”
He goes on to say, “I have taken comfort often in the knowledge that the perils of a journey on earth will be nothing compared to the glories in heaven.”
Faith was seen in both statements.
Faith is to be a part of all our lives.
We all are just passing through on a journey.
There will be some good days and others that may be trying.
When we are trying to overcome our doubts and fears, like Abraham, we are to look to the Almighty power of God.
From the Bible to the testimonies that we read or hear we all can receive the knowledge, wisdom, and encouragement we need.
They are the foundations that we should always build our faith in.
Faith will always keep us on the right path to receive the Savior’s blessings.
Blessings that make the journey easier.
He always knows what is best for us.
Knowing that in the end we will be reaping the glories in Heaven.
All the promises that the Lord has told us that Heaven would be.
Choose today to build on your foundation of faith.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we want to remain strong in our faith. We know that by the reading of the Word we get the knowledge and wisdom we need. Let us have faith like Abraham had. Let us find encouragement in the testimonies of others. We want all that You have promised because Heaven is where we want to be. Thank You for laying the foundation in our lives and constantly building on it.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
