Powerful Protection – Making the Right Move

Read: Psalms 121

(A Song of degrees.) I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. Psalms 121:1-2 KJV

I was reading a devotional where some gentlemen had an interest in motorcycles and decided to take a class.

Part of their training dealt with something called “target fixation”.

I found it interesting because I have never driven a motorcycle, but I have ridden on one.

Their instructor had told them that if they target fixate on something, that they would steer right into it.

But if they looked above and past it, focusing on where they needed to go, they could usually avoid it.

I took it to be the same as if you were driving your car, you try to look at what is happening around you to avoid an accident.

Not to just look straight ahead.

He also told them that “where you’re looking is the direction you’re going to go.”

I understand what he was saying.

And I agree with the writer that this applies to our spiritual lives as well.

That there comes a time in our lives when we need to change directions.

That when we ‘target fixate” on things like our problems or struggles, they become what we focus on most in our lives.

Thinking that our way of doing something is the only way it will be taken care of when it really is not.

Causing us to miss out on all the blessings the Lord has for us.

It is good to know that the Scriptures encourages us to look past our problems.

To not feel like we need to do things on our own.

But to look to the One who can help us with them.

The Word has told us, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help” (Psalms 121:1).

Where does our help come from?

The Psalmist answered it, “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalms 121:2).

We are afforded the same help.

The Savior is always watching over our comings and goings, both now and forevermore (vv. 2,8)

We all know that sometimes our circumstances seem unbearable and there is no way out.

We are so caught up in what is happening, we forget that there is Someone who has the right answers to our situation.

Psalms 121 is teaching us to comfort ourselves in the Lord during these times.

That is when we put ourselves under God’s protection.

His wisdom and power are our safety net.

He watches over us.

He is our watchful Keeper.

Supplying all we need to make it through.

In His arms we can rest.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know we have a problem with focusing on our problems. Help us to remember that You are our protection for life. That You are our Preserver and Comforter. So, when we look above and past all of them and focus on where we need to go, we will be found doing what You desire for our lives. Being assured of the blessings You have promised us in this Psalms. We want to follow You along this road called life.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
