Reconciliation

Read: Hebrews 2:14-18 / Leviticus 16:1-22

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. Hebrews 2:17 KJV

As Christians we know that reconciliation is the element of salvation.

A reconciliation resulting in our atonement for all the wrongs we have done.

Putting us on better terms with God.

In the Old Testament, goats were used as an offering to God to ask for the atonement of the people’s sins.

The priest would lead one of the goats to the altar to be killed as a sin offering.

Its blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat.

It was the sacrifice.

The other goat was known as the scapegoat.

The priest would lay his hands on it and confess the sins of the people.

The goat was then led into the desert and turned loose.

An act that was meant to show Israel’s sins being taken away.

That the people were reconciled to God.

The offering of these goats was the picture of what Christ did for us.

The cross was the altar where He gave His life as a sacrifice for our sins.

He became man and was tempted.

He was the scapegoat that portrayed that our sins had been removed.

To this day, He is ready and willing to assist and support us in times of hardship and distress. In the good and the bad.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, You took our place and gave us peace. We should not be surprised by the temptations that come our way. They are a sign that we are walking by faith. That nothing will stop our progress in obtaining the wisdom that is meant for us. Thank You for being the sacrifice that allows us to receive salvation and live a meaningful life.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
