And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Luke 15:17 KJV
There have been many who have testified about a lost loved one.
Some were physically and spiritually lost.
While some were just spiritually lost.
In either case, it was hard on the family.
They continued to pray and hope for a positive outcome.
They talk about how their search was successful.
How their prayers were answered.
Their loved one confessed they had done wrong and were lovingly received by their family.
In both cases, a lost soul was reunited with those that loved them.
As Christians there are times when we find ourselves in the position of being one who is lost.
We can find ourselves feeling like a prodigal son.
For the prodigal son, because of the life he chose to lead, he became spiritually hungry.
He was penniless and without the necessities of life.
The things he went through were the ways the Lord opened his eyes, and convinced him of his sins.
It gave the prodigal son a picture of himself.
He could see the difference between this previous life and the one he found himself living currently.
Despite what he had done, his father did not give up on his son.
He kept him in his heart and happily received him when he returned.
We have moments when we put ourselves in a position to lose our possessions.
We have moments when we cause ourselves to lose sight of what we know is spiritually correct.
To lose ourselves in the things of the world and lose sight of our spiritual wisdom takes away a multitude of things.
Like the prodigal son it will feel like we are in a land of famine. One when there is “bread enough to spare” in the Father’s house (Luke 15:17).
There is still hope.
It is good to know that even though we have sinned our fellowship with the Lord can be restored.
He is ready to receive us back with open arms.
The lord has told us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 KJV).
We can go to Him and tell Him everything.
It is a great feeling to know that despite all that we have done, we have a way back to the goodness of life.
A life where we no longer hunger or thirst for anything.
When we do this, we can enjoy all that He has for us as His child.
We all need to take the time to look at our lives.
To repent of our sins and come back home to the Father.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know that there will be times when we must look at how we think and do things. Recognizing all the things that would cause us to sin. To fall short of what You desire for our lives. You long to bless us every day of our lives. Your grace and holiness are ever present. It is up to us to obey what You are telling us. Thank You for being a God of a second chance.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
