Silence Is Golden

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.” Ecclesiastes 5:2 KJV

We have all been in a position where we express our opinions in a not so pleasant way.

Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes late in his life, approximately 935 B.C.

He had become aware of the mistakes that he had made throughout his life.

To help others, he began to document them.

In this chapter, he was telling us how when approaching the Lord, we should guard our steps. To take control of our how we speak and react. That many words and hasty ones, used in prayer, show foolishness of the heart, low thoughts of God, and careless thoughts of our own souls.

That no matter the situation we should draw near to Him to listen rather than being quick with our mouths and our heartfelt emotions.

When we sense that our attitude in approaching God needs adjustment, spend some time thinking about His never-ending wisdom, power and the overwhelming love He has for us.

He is always there for us, and our carefully chosen words honors Him.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, we know that a cheerful spirit is a great blessing. May we rest on the words, in which Solomon refers to God as the Giver, both of life and its enjoyments. How we should approach You in prayer, receive Your response and use them to Your will, and to Your glory. Teach us how to pray and how to listen.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
