Wait For It

And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. Acts 1:4 KJV

In Hebrew, the word for wait is ‘qavah’.

It means ‘to look for, hope, expect’.

While it is true that our waiting can make us impatient, we need to remember that there are good things that can come from it.

We must remind ourselves; He may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time.

That we should patiently wait.

Jesus knew that this was how the disciples felt when He told them not to leave Jerusalem.

They initially were nervous and anxious while they were waiting for the promises of the Father.

They were waiting to be baptized with the Holy Ghost (v5).

As they were waiting, full of excitement and anticipation, they began to understand that even though Jesus had told them to wait, He didn’t mean that they were to do nothing.

This is what the Lord is telling us also.

That is when they, the disciples, started to spend their time praying (v.14) and receiving information from the Scriptures.

They even took the time to choose a new disciple to replace Judas (v.26)

They were preparing themselves for what the Lord was about to do.

They were joined together in worship and prayer.

And while they were joined together, the Holy Spirit descended upon them.

As we wait on the Lord, it does not mean we should be doing nothing or trying to rush things.

Instead, we should be praying, worshiping, and enjoying our time of fellowship with one another.

We should be excited and wait in anticipation of what the Lord will do.

Because we know we can trust Him and the plans He has for us.

He would not have commanded us to do something and not make good on His promise.

The gift of the Holy Spirit was His promise.

A promise that is to be our guide.

We all have a season of waiting.

Our season of waiting is our season of preparation.

A season that helps to prepare our hearts, minds and bodies in anticipation of what is to come.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, just like the disciples we must learn to have patience while we wait. That we should be excited to know that we can trust You and know the plans You have for us are great. Thank You for the Divine promise and the encouragement to depend upon the Word.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
