What We Treasure the Most

Read: Matthew 6:18-24

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21 KJV

Our treasures come in many forms.

It can be money, jewels, precious metals, pictures, or anything we hold as valuable.

Things we hold dear to our hearts and try to carefully guard.

They bring value to our lives, but they are not to be treasured and relied on.

No matter how much we try to hold on to them, we need to remember when we are no longer living, we can’t take them with us.

They have their limitations.

Today’s passage is encouraging us to place a greater desire, not on the things that we possess on earth but on those that have an eternal value.

The earthly things we treasure will not always be available, are easily lost, damaged, or stolen (v.19).

But the treasures we lay up for ourselves in Heaven, nothing or no one can touch (v.20).

We are storing them up when we have a heartfelt desire to live according to the Word (v.21).

The storing of Heavenly treasures is the real wealth we should be striving to obtain.

Our love for the Lord is worth more than anything we possess or do on earth.

What do you treasure the most?

A WORD OF PRAYER

Savior, we all have things in our lives that we treasure. Help us to know the difference between having a treasure here on earth compared to the treasure we will have in Heaven. Thank You for the wisdom we get when we follow the Word.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
