“You Can’t Take It With You”

Read: Matthew 6:17-23 / Luke 12:13021

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. Matthew 6:20 KJV

Many of us have heard this expression.

It is used to say that we should enjoy our lives today because we can’t take our money or possessions with us when we die.

This does not mean we should be foolish in what we do.

Satan desires us to be worldly-minded.

It is his way of keeping a hold on our souls.

When we put too much stock in what we have on earth, we are failing to prepare for eternity.

Keeping us from seeing a greater life ahead.

The Lord never said we would not have nice things and a prosperous life.

But He is letting us know that we really should be focusing on living according to the Word.

Receiving the best thing the joys and glories of the other world has for us.

On those things not seen but are eternal.

A place our happiness will always be.

A happiness that outweighs the things of the world.

It is everlasting.

That would be our treasures in Heaven.

We know we can only receive this when we are wise and determined to not keep our minds on worldly things.

But claim our right to eternal life that is sure through Christ.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, the things of this world we can enjoy for a while, but we can’t take them with us. Let us be obedient to Your Word and serve You with gladness. Knowing that we have a greater reward to come because we have stored up treasures in Heaven.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
