And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
2 Samuel 9:3 KJV
We have all had our moments.
Moments when we need to make things right.
Some can be linked to past family history.
Some are based on things we have done.
It is a blessing to know that we have the ability to change and make things better in our lives or the lives of someone else.
David found himself in this position.
It started several years earlier when King Saul had attempted to kill him.
He was not successful.
Even after King Saul’s death, for years, his descendants fought David (2 Samuel 3:1).
Eventually, David assumed full power and was put in the position as Israel’s king.
Now Saul’s family had only one remaining member.
His name was Mephibosheth, a handicapped grandson.
King David called him to the palace.
Not knowing what to expect, Mephibosheth was terrified.
But King David assured him that he would be safe.
That he just wanted to show him the kindness of God (2 Samuel 9:3).
He showed this kindness by giving him all of Saul’s property.
He even invited him to dine at the royal table as long as he lived.
King David’s kindness to Mephibosheth reflects God’s kindness to us.
Despite what he had gone through with Saul.
Despite what he went through with Saul’s descendants.
The same holds true regarding our lives.
When we think about our salvation, we have so much to think about.
How despite everything we did, God still showed us mercy and grace (Ephesians 2:1-10).
God is faithful to us.
Let us not be unfaithful to Him and one another.
The right kind of heart is one that is a kind heart like God’s.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, You have raised us up when we were down. When we see our friends or their family feeling low, let us see it as an opportunity to give. An opportunity to be kind and show them love like You have shown it to us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
