Today’s Reading: Lamentations 3:21-36
Today’s Verse: “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV
To lament means to feel or express deep sorrow, regret, or grief.
The faithful lament their hardships, and hope in God’s mercies.
That is what the Prophet Jeremiah is teaching us when he wrote this chapter. He wrote it while mourning and looking at the smoking ruins of Jerusalem after it had been destroyed by Babylon.
He was deeply grieved and suffering personally. But he shifted his focus away from his terrible surroundings. He changed his focus onto the unchanging, trustworthy character of God. He refused to let the situation keep him from having hope in God.
As believers we know to lament is not a complaint. It does not mean we are losing faith. It is our sacred way to process suffering, all the while holding on to and trusting in God’s goodness.
This passage is our reminder that God’s loyal love and mercy never runs out. His commitment does not change even when we are struggling or falling. His grace keeps us from being destroyed, even when we deserve to be judged for our wrongdoings. All afflictions do and will forever work for our good.
It is great to know that His forgiveness and compassion does not have an expiration date. It does not wear thin over time. His mercies are fresh and new every single day. Always giving us the opportunity to turn to Him and experience His never-ending grace.
It will be our comfort and satisfaction when we hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.
Great is His faithfulness.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, thank You for waking us up to a new day. We are thankful that Your mercy arrived before we even opened our eyes. Because of Your love for us, we are not consumed. Any mistakes and failures will not have the final word today. When we begin to feel heaviness in our hearts, the stress and worries will not overtake us. we will rest on the fact that Your compassion never fails. Wash away all the guilts of our past. Let us receive Your grace and the strength we need for today. A peace that will always remind us that You are with us. Great is Your faithfulness, We place our trust and hope in You.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
