Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Romans 13:1 KJV
Statewide General Elections are happening right now.
As citizens, when we vote we are participating in this process.
It is a time to elect a candidate.
Our way of saying who we feel will best represent us.
Before we vote, we should make sure we know what each candidate is supporting.
If what they are about is good for us.
Case in point, I was reading a devotional that talked about an election that happened in 1938.
It stated that the name Boston Curtis appeared on the ballot.
It was for the position of Republican Committeeman in Wilton, Washington.
As it turned out, Boston Curtis was a mule.
The name was placed on the ballot, sponsored by the mayor, to demonstrate that people know very little about the candidates.
He proved his point because the mule won!
The Bible even puts an emphasis on our need to vote.
How the people had a voice in who would fill the Lord’s appointments.
The Apostle Paul said, “The authorities that exist are appointed by God.” But we who live in lands where the people elect their leaders can have a voice in who will fill the Lord’s appointments (R0mans 13 NIV).
To vote is a privilege that we must take seriously.
Each state gives their citizens a chance to vote for the person they feel would do well in said position.
They even send out an Official Election Guide or Sample Ballot to voters.
They even allow for early voting.
For those who haven’t already voted, take the time to find out more about the candidates seeking office before you vote.
It may seem time-consuming, but it is worth it.
When we do, we find out about their moral standards.
What their political philosophy is all about.
What their true position is on vital issues.
Who they are receiving support from.
Watch as many debates as possible that are on media sites.
But most of all pray about it.
Then vote wisely.
Never feel that your vote doesn’t matter. It does.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, we know You rule over everything. Giving us the ability to make choices. We need great wisdom as we vote. To ensure that truth and right may have a voice. We pray that all will take the time to see who is on the ballots and make the right choice.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
