These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Acts 17:11 KJV
The word research is taken from the Middle-French “recherche” which means “to go about seeking.”
It is the process that we use to collect data, document critical information, analyze it and determine how it can be utilized.
That is what we do when we receive the Word.
Be it from a sermon, attending a Bible Study or talking with someone about what you learned or heard.
We begin to search the scriptures.
Ensuring that the things we heard were so.
That is what the Jews in Berea did.
They not only heard Paul preach on the Sabbath, but they daily searched the Scriptures.
Comparing what they had heard and read with the facts related to them.
The Lord wants us to read the Word daily.
Ensuring what we may hear for someone else is really what the Lord desires for us to know.
Some of us may do a short daily devotion in which we read a single Scripture.
Some of us may sit down with pencil and paper and study one of the Books of the Bible.
The main goal as we read, study, and meditate on the Word, is to learn from the Bible so we can say as the Psalmist did, “I trust in thy word” (Psalms 119:42).
Let us all strive to read the Scriptures daily and consult them accordingly.
As they say, “A well-read Bible makes a well-fed soul”.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, may all the hearers of the Word become like those of Berea. May we receive the Word with readiness of mind. Faithfully, searching the Scriptures daily. Making it possible for us to know whether the things preached, or spoken, to us is truly what You desire for us to know. We know knowledge is power. Thank You for providing us with a resource that never needs to be updated.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
