He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. Matthew 26:42 KJV
It is our nature to want something.
To feel that we just had to have it.
The problem is that it may not be in our best interest.
We are told “no”, and we have a problem with accepting it.
Sometimes we question it, only to get the same response.
Eventually, after much thought, we see that it was probably a good thing that we didn’t get it.
The same holds true when God says “no” to us.
We get frustrated, find it hard to rest, and begin to lose trust in Him.
All because we feel what we want is what we need.
Just like Jesus did, we need to continue to pray until it is all made plain unto us.
Knowing that He would never do anything to harm those He loves.
God is holding us in His hands and has control over it all.
He is working silently in ways we cannot see.
We should be thankful for the Father saying, “no” to the request Jesus made in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Thankful the “no” He says to us on a day to day basis.
Our Savior was overwhelmed with sorrow and the thought that something bad was about to happen.
He was about to offer Himself as the sacrificial Lamb.
The Lamb that would take away all the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21).
In His human form, He didn’t really like this ideal.
But He wanted to do His Father’s will, He listened and did what He was told to do.
That is the reason why He prayed like He did.
He knew the Father had control of it all.
We can be certain that with any trials or troubles that come our way, the Father will give us the strength to endure.
We just need to trust and believe.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know that when we pray, the answer might be the one we want. To us the answer may seem negative. But when we begin to look at the big picture, we see it is for our good. Thank You for giving us the strength to endure.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
