A true mentor is a leader.
One who desires to help others.
They have personal experiences in certain things and understand what it will take for you to accomplish tasks set before you.
They will take the time to get to know you, the challenges you face and will help you prepare for success.
They are someone who will support, advise and guide you.
A mentor is someone you would trust with your life.
God knows exactly who should be in our lives to ensure this happens.
He will let us know if the person we are looking at is the one for us.
As we learn and grow in the Word, He is also preparing us to be leaders.
Knowing that in the end, you may be the one chosen to be a mentor.
The prophet Elijah played a serious role in Elisha becoming a leader. His successor (1 King 19:16,19).
He was following the commandment of God.
When Elijah found Elisha, he was plowing in a field.
Elijah invited him to be his protégé. To be led and guided by him.
Elisha agreed.
Elisha watched as Elijah performed miracles and obeyed God no matter what.
This was God’s way of preparing Elisha for a lifetime of ministry.
Elisha had many opportunities to leave but chose to renew his commitment to his mentor.
We never know all the things we will encounter, but we do know it is what the Master desires us to learn and do.
As a result of Elisha’s faithfulness, God was able to use him in unusual and remarkable ways.
In these days and times, we all need someone who models what it means to be a mentor.
Christ has been the prime mentor.
Leading and guiding us every step of the way.
He has chosen us to be someone who can show others what it means to be of service to the Lord.
We must be willing to learn from Him, despite the sacrifices we must make.
All who follow Christ should not tire and fall short of His blessings.
In the end, every sacrifice will be well worth it.
They should continue to be willing to let others know of the Lord’s goodness and love for all His children is a great thing.
We never know who may be watching us and desire to follow us in the ways of the Lord.
Elijah knew his days were coming to an end.
To have God trust him to mentor Elisha had to be rewarding.
It is a blessing to have the Lord choose us to be a mentor.
Knowing that the lives we touch can lead to someone else continuing to spread the Word when we are gone too.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, Thank You for placing people in our lives to challenge and encourage us. That we have a mentor in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Making it possible, by the power of Your Spirit, to be a mentor to someone else. May they receive the knowledge that is needed to help continue to spread the Word and be a mentor like You too.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
