Read: Proverbs 1:14-20
Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. Proverbs 1:17 KJV
It is known that birds have a better awareness of things than people.
In this passage Solomon is showing us the connection to mankind.
When he wrote, “Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird” (Proverbs 1:17 KJV), he was referring to wicked people.
Those who do that can be more foolish than the fowls of the air.
He said this because birds are smart enough to flee when they see a net being spread to catch them.
A good example of this is how a farmer dealt with a crow situation.
Crows were stealing his corn, so he went out and strung twine.
It was about five feet from the ground between the trees surrounding the area where he planted his crop.
He was hoping that the black-feathered thieves were watching and would get the message that they were not welcome there.
They did and they stopped eating his corn.
They did not want to take the chance of being caught.
They were being extremely cautious.
For people, they often will rush headlong into the snares of the enemy.
That is what Solomon was trying to tell us.
He was expressing how we are to be on guard against the dangers and trickery we will encounter in life.
The Lord knew that there would be many of us that even when we recognize these temptations, we would still indulge in sin.
All because they are inviting, and we think it will not matter or that we will not get caught.
We have to beware of these thoughts.
We are not to yield to any evil urges, because the devil is setting a trap for us.
Just like the crow, let us be a wise man who always flees from temptation.
Always rely on the Word.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, temptation is all around us. Help us to continue to avoid it. We know that nothing is truly gained in this world if we lose our soul. If we fail to live according to Your Word and to Your ways. So when these temptations come our way, let us hold to Your goodness. Let it lead us in Your perfect way. Thank You for Your amazing grace.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
