But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
Matthew 6:20 KJV
It is no secret that we all like nice things.
We all want to have success in all our endeavors.
Some of them are wise investments.
The problem comes when we look more towards our external preferences than our internal devotion.
The wealth of the world is only for a moment.
What we gain through our faith in the Lord and His teachings is worth so much more.
The Savior has told us, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal (Matthew 6:19).
The things of the world are bound to lose their usefulness and, in some cases, stolen, never to be seen again.
We get stressed and frustrated about the things we have lost.
This is what also happens when we fail to live by the Word.
We stop reading and praying and the things of the world take over our lives.
We allow Satan to break through and steal our salvation.
Thankfully there is a better way to handle things.
A way to enjoy and be thankful for what He has given us, but not to let them keep us from planning ahead for our eternal future.
That is why the Lord has told us what is more important than what we possess on earth.
He said, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” (Matthew 6:20).
Because of the wisdom He grants us, we understand the reason not to worry about the things here below.
And that is because they do not compare to what He has waiting for us in Heaven.
A place that is full of happiness above and beyond anything we have here on earth.
Through Him, we really have all that we need.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we can possess many things in our lifetime. Some will have great value. But there is one investment that all should make from an early age. That is to accept and trust You to lead and guide them in all they do. Knowing that things on earth will perish, but what is in Heaven, never will. Trusting in the Word is the best investment we can make. Thank You for making us wise investors.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
