You Need to Know – Words Spoken Have Great Meaning

Read: Proverbs 25:8-14 / Proverbs 16:21-24

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Proverbs 25:11 KJV

One word can make a difference in someone’s life.

Take a minute to think about the times one word has done the job for you.

How it made you feel.

At church an “Amen!” can give encouragement to the pastor, someone sitting close to you or even yourself.

In baseball, hearing the umpire yell “Safe!” or “Out”, depending on the team you are cheering on.

Everyday we have an opportunity to either give encouragement to someone or be a discouragement to someone.

It happens all because of the words we speak.

The wisdom contained in the book of Proverbs covers just about everything dealing with our everyday lives.

It provides us with the ability to really look at life through God’s eyes and live the correct way.

In this passage it tells us that our words can be a world of good or a world of bad.

Proverbs 25:11 KJV says, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”

It is said to mean, “A word of counsel, or reproof, rightly spoken, is especially beautiful, as fine fruit becomes still more beautiful in silver baskets.”

The Message (MSG) version says, “The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry, And a wise friend’s timely reprimand is like a gold ring slipped on your finger.”

In Proverbs 15:1 NIV it says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

In Proverbs 12:25 NIV it says, “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”

Our words really do have meaning.

“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24 KJV).

They can help to eliminate the stress that the world can bring.

The stress we bring on ourselves.

Take the time to determine which kind of word you may be noted for.

Ask yourself.

Do you bring light to the people around you? Or do you bring sadness because of the things you say?

Do you speak encouragement to yourself? Or do you dwell on things of the past instead of pressing to change and make things better?

As we think about the words we say, make sure what we say are the right ones.

The “Word” is our best source on what and how we should speak.

Always remembering that well-spoken words can speak volumes to the person listening.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know the words we say have much meaning. They can impact the way some folks live. Let our words be loving and kind. Ones that can heal and bless. Through the Word we gain the knowledge and wisdom we need to make it happen. We want to be like You.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
