(To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.) O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. Psalms 47
Silent movies are a thing of the past.
But they were still great entertainment during those times.
Even though there was no sound, the people watching made up for its absence.
The audience provided the sound effects as the hero and villain fought.
Cheering on the hero and booing the villain.
Screaming warnings and approvals.
Clapping and shouting when the villain was defeated.
Making kissing sounds when the hero and lady in distress were united.
Despite there being no sound, they were participating in the drama that was happening on the screen.
They desired to be a part of the action and could express themselves.
This is what the Old Testament way of worshipping was about.
Worship was not passive.
It was one where the people participated.
It did not matter where you were from.
Everyone had the opportunity to express themselves.
They added sound to the worship.
And expressed themselves with the movement of their bodies.
There was the clapping of their hands and a triumphant shout out to God (Psalms 47:1).
Cries of joy filled the atmosphere.
That is what our worship is to be to this day.
It shows that we have faith.
That we are grateful for all that He has done and is doing in our lives.
For all the victories He has won.
He has defeated the enemy for our sakes.
Let us forever, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise” (Psalms 98:4).
Clap your hands and give Him praise.
He is still helping to fight our battles.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, with the clapping of our hands, we give You praise. You have done so much for us. With a loud voice, we rejoice and sing praises to Your name. We are nothing without You. Thank You for all that You are doing and will do for us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
