And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him. Isaiah 30:18 KJV
It is so fulfilling when something we read brings to light exactly what we need to know.
Many of us have felt like we have been kept waiting when we don’t hear from God our way.
Quick, fast, and in a hurry is how we think He is to respond.
The question is, “Why does He sometimes make us wait?”
The answer can be found in Isaiah 30:18.
Notice that it contains the word “therefore”.
It has been said that if we examine what precedes the word “therefore” we will discover “what it’s there for!”
Check it out.
We see in verse 15, the Lord is reminding Israel that if she had turned and rested in Him, she would have been saved from her enemies.
That if she had been quiet and confident, she would have found the strength she needed.
”But ye said, ‘No’” (vv. 15-16).
Instead of Israel returning to the Lord, they would flee from their enemies (v.17).
Get ready, here it comes!
Verse 18.
“Therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you.”
What was God waiting for?
He was waiting on Israel to repent, turn to Him, and seek happiness in His favor and service.
Only then would His grace abound.
That is what the “therefore” in our lives means also.
It is “there for” the purpose of reminding us that God cannot act on our behalf until we give it all to Him.
Trusting that He will make a way.
That blessed we will be when we wait on [You] (v.18).
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, things don’t always happen the way we want them too. Mainly because we are standing in Your way. Our faith in You has to get better. Help us to remember that once we give it to You, You will tell us what to do, and we just have to do it. The more we put our confidence in You, the happier we will be.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
