For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:37 KJV
I couldn’t help but laugh when I read a devotional that related to the meaning of this verse.
The fact that our words reveal what we actually know about some things.
How we say and do some things just to look good in the eyes or others.
There was a lady who had never been fishing before.
She wanted to spend time with her male friend and told him that she loved to fish, because it was something he liked to do.
Long story short, the weather was good, bites weren’t happening.
After a while, she said to him, “You know that red and white thing you put on my line.”
“You mean the bobber?” He replied.
“Yes, how much did it cost?”
“Oh, about 50 cents.”
“Well,” she said, “then I owe you 50 cents because mine just sunk.”
She had no clue that there was a fish on on her line.
At that point, her words revealed that she really knew nothing about fishing.
The Lord has warned us that sooner or later our words will reveal who we truly are.
How we might speak like we are following Him and the true conditions of our hearts.
How we are never to have a heart filled with thoughts only for ourselves.
Knowing that they are revealed by deceitful actions, when we criticize others and constantly complain.
A heart that is truly filled with love for God is known by words of honesty, gratefulness, encouragement, and an undying concerns for others.
Jesus has told us that by our words we will be justified and that by our words we shall be condemned (Matthew 12:37).
Our words reflect our love for the Lord and a desire to show that He is living in us.
They truly reveal who we are.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, what we say reveals who we are. Let us keep constant watch over ourselves, that we may speak words agreeable to the Christian character You desire to keep a place in our lives. We want to be real and make sure our words reflect the goodness that comes from You.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
