Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. 2 Peter 1:10 KJV
There are a lot of good cooks out there, and those of us that like to eat a good meal.
We all have a favorite recipe we like to use.
One that was used by the family, or a friend, and we made it our own.
It might not be written down but is one we know exactly what we need and the amounts of each ingredient we are going to use.
For some of the recipes, leaving out any of the ingredients or the use of a substitute does not give us the result we want.
The same thing happens in our spiritual lives.
The Apostle Peter has a recipe we all can use to produce an effective and pleasant Christian life.
Note: When we leave anything out, we don’t get the desired outcome.
In his recipe, there are two main ingredients: God’s Divine Power and God’s Precious Promises (vv. 3-4).
Through our believing and living according to the Word, we can blend His power and His promises into our lives, helping us become more like Christ.
It doesn’t stop there.
Peter also included the additional ingredients that are necessary. The ones that help build our faith.
They are virtue, knowledge, self-control, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love (vv.5-7).
When we include each of these, we will not be unfruitful, nor unproductive in our walk with the Lord (v.8).
If we don’t add them, we lose out on the nutrition it brings.
Follow His instructions, because our faith in His recipe will give us everything we need for “Spiritual Success”.
So, when someone asks us for the recipe, we can give it to them with great joy.
Telling them how good it is to follow His instructions, because when we do things His way we will never fail (v.10).
Obey the Word.
Don’t try to change it.
It is perfect just like it is.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know You have a recipe already written for our lives. It has all the ingredients for a prosperous life. None of us can say we are not well fed. Everything we need is right there in the Word. If we follow Your instructions, Lord, we will not fail. Thank you for loving and sharing them with us.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
