For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. Hebrews 13:14 KJV
We all have different ways of seeing things.
Sometimes we become fearful and restless in life.
Our personal views are shaped by our experiences, values, and our ways of thinking.
It plays a big part in how we approach things.
Those are the times when we must focus on the good that will come at the end of it all.
That is what the writer of Hebrews was expressing to his readers.
He could see the discouragement in them.
He was taking the time to remind them that they were not alone.
That there had been other people of faith that had gone through some of the same trials but endured it all because they anticipated something better was coming.
He told them, “For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come” (Hebrews 13:14).
That even though they had been forced out of their home country and made to live somewhere else, they were to live by faith and know things would get better.
Looking forward to becoming “citizens of Heaven”.
Dwelling in a city in which God is the architect.
A city prepared just for them (Hebrews 11:10,14,16).
The same applies to our lives and the situations that we face.
Our present troubles and fears are only for a season.
We are all “strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13).
Focusing not on the things of this world, but on the promises of God.
They are the points of reference that we need.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, the things of this world will not cause us to continue in fear and lose faith in You. We bring them all to You. Giving honor and praise You. Knowing that there is a city prepared for us. Where, with You, we will find the rest and peace we need.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
