And all that believed were together, and had all things common. Acts 2:44 KJV
There are times when we get together in groups to complete a project.
During meetings we try to come up with a plan on how something should be done.
Planning on how we will accomplish it and how long it will take.
Knowing there will be times when we won’t agree on some things.
We all want to achieve the same goal and have a positive outcome.
That was God’s purpose for the church.
He has a Master plan with a goal that is beneficial to all our lives.
His desire is that we all come together and achieve the plan He has regarding His people.
He wants all of us to prosper and live a good life.
The final goal being one of a Heavenly victory.
One where we all dwell in a place of peace and love with Him.
Luke gives us a good example of what it means to come together.
How with the Lord the desire to achieve the same goal can be done.
He tells us that on the day of Pentecost (v.1), “there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven (v.5).
That even though they were from different cultures and spoke different languages, the Holy Spirit was with them.
How their coming together made them a new community.
One that should be working together to achieve the same goals.
The goal was for them to come together and to tell people about the death and resurrection of Christ.
That He died for all to receive salvation and eternal life.
Thanks to the Holy Spirit’s leading of the disciples, these “believers [came] together, and had all things common” (v.44).
Willingly sharing all their knowledge, skills, and abilities with one another.
Because of this union there were “about three thousand souls” that were saved (v.41) and became followers of Christ.
Imagine how divided they would have been if Jesus had not brought them together.
There would have been so many opinions and disagreements that nothing would get done.
There would have been so many still lost to the ways of the world.
To this day we may not always get along.
We know there are many who still need to hear about the Lord.
Some who will come to know Him and others who will not.
As God’s disciples we really need to understand what the Lord has called us to do.
How we are going to achieve and fulfil God’s purpose.
We can do this because the Holy Spirit continues to lead us.
We will be living in a way that allows us to help others understand the need to come together.
Continuing to come together in praise and worship.
Thanking and praising God for having favor with all of us.
Because He desires the best for all of us.
Thanking and praising Him for the many souls that are being saved every day (vv.46-47).
How wonderful it is to come together as believers in Christ.
Seeing all God’s goals coming to life.
Looking forward to hearing Him say, “Job well done” (Matthew 25:23).
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, as believers in You, we belong together. We all need to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. When we do, there is no longer “us” and “them” but only “we”. Thank You for all that You give us, making it possible to unite as one.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
