But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.
Matthew 6:3 KJV
There are times in our lives when we just have a desire to give.
To show a simple act of kindness to someone else.
We don’t have to reveal who we are and we may never know what it meant to that person, but just the fact that we blessed someone else is heart-warming enough.
In Matthew 6, the Lord expressed His disapproval of those who made a show of giving to the needy (v.2).
He taught His disciples the means of justice and righteousness.
That they were not to make their giving and generosity all about them.
He needed them to understand that their giving should be done secretly.
So secret, that it would be like their left hand not being aware of what their right hand was doing (v.3).
The same holds true in our lives.
When we do something for show, we are seen of men, bur our reward is temporary.
When we take least notice of our good deeds ourselves, God takes most notice of them.
Giving quietly and generously reflects God’s generosity.
He is not as a master who gives his servant what he earns, and no more, but as a Father who gives abundantly to His children that serves Him (v.6).
His reward to us is everlasting, not temporary.
A blessing we receive as we live according to His Word.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, to do things out of love and not for recognition is what You desire from us. There is great joy in being able to help someone. To know that we could do it because we have been blessed by You. Help us to remember that the rewards we receive from You are greater than anything that man can give. Your rewards are everlasting. Thank You for answering our prayers and leading us on a path that brings You glory.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
