So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. Nehemiah 8:8 KJV
Reading is a thinking process by which we build a meaning of something through words.
Its purpose is to help the reader understand the text, to use the information towards a goal and to help them remain focused on achieving it.
Reading helps in our studies, careers, and life in general.
It can help in reducing stress.
It gives us the ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
For some it is their refuge or a way to escape.
There is a lot that we can learn when we choose to read, especially the Bible.
When the Jewish people returned home from being enslaved in Babylon, the problems they had faced followed them home.
Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem was a struggle.
They struggled to defend themselves against their enemies, famine, and their own sins.
It was by the grace of God that during their struggle “Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up” (v.5).
He had their attention, and they began to listen.
The people were surprised by what the priests were reading from “the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading” (v.8).
It moved them to tears (v.9).
Despite the tears and what they were feeling, they also found comfort in what they were hearing.
Nehemiah encouraged them to “Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength” (v.10).
The Word of God demands our attention.
We don’t have to wait until trouble comes our way to hear from the Lord.
The Bible is our guide that teaches us about His character, and His forgiveness towards us.
Learning even more about the wisdom, knowledge, and comfort He desires to give us.
Take the time to read a passage.
Finding all the comfort and knowledge you need.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, when we read the Bible it gives meaning to what we go through in life. It gives us the information we need to accomplish the goals You have set for each of us. And even if we can’t read the Word for ourselves, Thank You for making it possible for us to receive it in other ways. We all need to hear and understand.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
