A shepherd is one that tends and rears sheep. They guide or direct them in a particular direction. Keeping them from harm and dangers.
In ancient Israel, loving and knowing the sheep distinguished a true shepherd from a hired hand. He spent so much time with his sheep that he developed a relationship of care and concern for them.
Men, as creatures depending on their Creator, are called the sheep of His pasture. He is keeping us from being exposed to deceivers and persecutors.
He is the great Shepherd of the sheep, guards us by His providence, guides us by His Spirit and Word, and goes before us, just like the Eastern shepherds went before their sheep.
As the sheep of Christ must observe our Shepherd. We must be cautious of any strangers, who would draw us away from our faith in Him.
The Lord knows us, and He loves us.
Because of His love, our hearing and believing His Word, we should have a gracious and happy life as one of His sheep.
Let nothing keep us from following Him.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, Thank You for how You continue to tenderly love and care for us. As the Shepherd in our lives, let us not cease to follow You. Knowing that we can put all our trust in You.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
