For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9 KJV
God is the Creator of all things.
He owns “the cattle upon a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:10 KJV).
“The world is [His], and the fulness thereof” (Psalms 50:12 KJV).
Everything that exists comes from Him and everything we have belongs to Him.
The practice of giving is something the Father desires to be seen in all of us.
Christ demonstrated this for all to see.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9 KJV).
Christ was rich in power and glory, with a need for nothing.
But He chose to become man for us all.
To really understand why man did things the way they did.
To show us what it meant to do something that would help ourselves and others.
He did it for the poor as well as the rich.
He sacrificed everything as a ransom for our souls.
Nothing can compare to the sacrifice He made.
In this passage, Paul was talking about the Macedonian Christians.
How they were an example of what our giving should look like.
That our giving should be in the light of God’s love and the generosity He has towards us.
The Macedonians were in great poverty but still chose to give liberally.
He spoke to “How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality” 2 Corinthians 8:2 KJV).
That in all their giving, “[they] first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God” (2 Corinthians 8:5 KJV).
He knows what we can or cannot do financially or otherwise.
Some may give their tithes and offerings in church services but do nothing more.
Feeling that this was the only thing they needed to do to acknowledge God for all He has done for them.
But there are more ways that the Lord desires us to acknowledge that He is a part of our lives.
In our desire to follow Christ, we must lay aside all the things of the world that are not of Him.
We do it by showing sacrificial love and emotional support to one another.
That is why the Father lets the Holy Spirit lead and guide us in all our giving.
That it is not just a monetary thing.
He is always guiding us and helping us to give freely and happily.
There is nothing so small that the Father does not appreciate what we give or do.
He just wants it to be something that we give from the heart and according to the Word.
Always remembering that seeking after worldly advantages is not the way to profess our Christianity, our faith.
Trusting in the Lord and the Word is how we all live happily.
We can do all things through Christ because He is our strength (Philippians 4:13 KJV).
In and through Him our blessings flow.
Give Him your all.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we know that no matter how much we give we can never outgive You. The sacrifices You made is far greater than anything we could ever do. Help us to remember that we all have something to give. It may not be a monetary one but the love we show means a lot. That whatever we do influences someone else’s life. We want to be a positive influence. Just like You are in our lives. Thank You for all that You have done to show and continue to show Your love for us.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
