Hearing and Doing: This is a Really Great Combination

Read: James 1:19-24

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22 KJV

We all have heard the phrase “In one ear and out the other.”

That there will be circumstances in our lives that show us there is a time when we need to listen before we speak.

Times when good advice is being given but we fail to act on it.

It is because we are sometimes naturally tempted to come to our own conclusions.

Many times, having an angry reaction because we feel our way is the only way.

In this passage of James, we are told, “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” James 1:19 KJV).

Life is full of stressful situations.

That is when we need to rest on doing what the Lord has told us.

He has told us “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” James 1:22 KJV.

We can hear a sermon every day of the week but if we only rest on hearing the Word and not acting on it, we will be missing a multitude of blessings.

It is up to us to follow His directions.

Let us all show restraint from using words that cause anger and stressful situations.

Taking the time to listen and understand.

Remembering what the Word has told us.

The truth that is laid down is profoundly serious.

Everything He tells us is to be observed in all we do.

Giving us the ability to speak words filled with love.

A love that is greater than anything we face in life.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that You speak to us every hour of the day. That You expect us to listen and do as we are told. We want to be doers of the Word and not hearers only. It is the best way to receive all the blessings You desire for our lives. Let us continue to listen and get a better understanding of how to manage things. An understanding that gives us the ability to continuously speak with love. A love that represents You. A love that defeats all manner of sin. Thank You for daily speaking to us.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
