And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
John 20:28 KJV
There will always be a time when someone must be seen before another person will believe who they are.
They must have proof.
That is what was happening in this passage.
Thomas was not present when the Lord first appeared after rising from the grave.
Before he could believe, he told them he wanted to “see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side” (John 20:25 KJV).
It was when he was fully convinced that it was Jesus who had been risen from the grave, he acknowledges Him.
He “said unto him, My Lord and my God” (John 20:28 KJV).
Take notice that Jesus neither denied these titles nor refused the recognition.
Neither did He say anything to Thomas for addressing Him as God.
It has been said that if the Lord did not want His followers to worship Him, this would have been the perfect time for Him to correct them.
His followers saw that He was unique.
Being the only existing one of His characters.
Jesus was recognized by the disciples as the divine Son of God.
They responded with love and worship.
His slanderers also recognized His claim to His Divine status.
Theirs was done with hostility and unbelief.
They, on many occasions, denied Him and tried to kill Him. Read John 5:18 KJV and John 10:33 KJV.
We all know that we cannot be neutral when it comes to our faith and knowing who Jesus really is.
If we are faithless, we are Christless.
Our lives are graceless, hopeless, and joyless.
We should all strive to be sound and sincere believers.
Desiring to be graciously accepted of the Lord Jesus.
It is the duty of those who read and hear the gospel, to believe.
We are to embrace the doctrine of Christ, and that record concerning him (1John 5:11).
Then we can truly say of Him from our heart “My Lord and my God”.
Always rejoicing in knowing the living and true Savior.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, there will always be a time when our faith is tested. We are thankful that we have the Word and living testimonies that help us to stay strong in trusting You. The enemy has no place in our lives. You are [our] Lord and [our] God. We are forever grateful and praise Your Holy Name. Thank You for being a big part of our lives.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
