Read: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7 KJV
Many of us have checked the labels on grocery products we intend to buy.
We take a good look at it because we feel we may be getting less than what is indicated.
Even according to some news reports and TV shows, it is said that some manufacturers are selling us same size packages but with less of the product.
It is a notice to all buyers that what is packaged does not always contain what is on the inside.
The same holds true with people.
We can present ourselves to others with nice clothes, big smiles, even friendly attitudes, yet still not be what we appear to be.
In Samuel’s search for a king to replace Saul we see that the Lord looks deeper into who someone may be.
The Prophet Samuel was more interested in what he saw on the outside.
Outward appearances was not the Lord’s main focus.
He was interested in what was on the inside.
The Lord knew that David had what it took to be king (1 Samuel 16:7 KJV).
The world we live in will always measure the value of a product and people by the way they look.
We are not to let what we see on the outside keep us from truly seeing what is on the inside.
Our reputation is what others think we are.
They are looking at our outer appearance.
God knows that is the contents of what is on the inside that matters most.
He knows it is truly who we are.
What we have on the inside will be a blessing to the ministry.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Savior, we are not to focus on the outward appearance of ourselves or anyone else. We each need to focus on our inner appearance. Making sure that we focus on the Spirit inside of us. The One that truly says who we are in You. We know that is what really matters. Let us continue to keep our hearts and minds focused on what should be inside of us. We all know it is Your Word and Your ways.
