Our Sacrifice of Thanksgiving

Read: Psalms 116 / Psalms 98

I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. Psalms 116:17 KJV

From an early age, we are taught to say grace before eating.

We know we could have been the one without anything to eat or drink.

To say a prayer before going to bed.

Thanking Him for keeping us safe throughout the day.

For giving us a place to sleep.

For watching over us all through the night.

As we grew older, we learned what it meant to give thanks all day long.

For all the things He was helping us deal with throughout the day.

There are many who think that when we pray, sing, worship, or read Scriptures, that they are only actions toward God for safety purposes.

That we only do them to prevent God from destroying or causing us harm.

They are not.

When we think of Him that way, we will find ourselves doing things for the wrong reasons.

Doing them for personal gain or approval.

Not because we really appreciate all that He is doing for us.

Our prayers should be ones of thankfulness,

Done to give honor and praise for Him and His greatness.

Our hearts and voices should be like the praises expressed in Psalms 98.

Praises of the glory and the joy of our Redeemer.

Sacrificial praises and thanksgivings to Him should be our desire (Psalms 116:17).

Always remembering that we are not worshipping God to get His benefits.

We are giving thanks because of who He is and how He continues to bless us.

To be like the psalmist and not be ashamed of God’s service and invite other to join us.

A fellowship where we all give thanks.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Lord, we know we all benefit when we pray and praise. But our prayers and praises of thanksgiving are not to be strictly for personal gain or approval, but because You deserve it. You are worthy of all the praise no matter the day or the hour. They should come to You all hours of the day. That is why we give You thanks for all the glory, power, wisdom, and the might You bring to our lives. This is our sacrificial praise of thanksgiving to You. We are nothing without You.

In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
