Love is an affection that we take pleasure in showing.
It is a great feeling to know that we are loved.
It is even a greater feeling to be able to show it.
In Romans 12:10, God has told us, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love.”
In this passage, He is reminding us to continue to show this love.
Brotherly love is a characteristic that we all should show.
It is a desire to want the best for all those we know, a stranger or someone the Lord has placed on our minds to contact or pray for.
There are many people in need of this type of love and for many reasons.
Some have just moved and may not know many people.
To have someone greet them with open arms and kind words is comforting.
Others may believe they can take care of themselves and have no need to reach out to others.
But when we show love and concern, they are sometimes willing to accept it. To realize that they do need this type of love.
Sometimes there is a feeling of loneliness and the need for someone to talk too.
They may not always show it, but the Lord has a way of letting us know who to contact and make their day more pleasant.
No matter the reason, we are all a part of the family of God.
We are to love one another as brothers and sisters.
We are to show kindness to strangers.
Love is to be shown to everybody.
The same unconditional love He has shown each of us.
There are many verses in the Bible that express and teach us about brotherly love.
Showing us that true brotherly love is sacrificial, not thinking only of ourselves.
We are not to think that we are better than anyone else.
If Jesus could sacrifice His life to show us love, there is no reason we can’t take a little time out of our day to show love to one another.
Some people may not return our kindness, but we should not let that be the reason we give up on showing it.
Jesus has promised never to leave or forsake us (v.5), and we can use His friendship to fuel our love for others.
We are the family of God, Jesus is our prime example and the friends we make on this journey will last forever, through this life and beyond.
Let us be the fellow believers the Lord needs and who doesn’t mind showing brotherly love.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we pray that nothing will keep us from following the examples that Jesus set regarding love and all the ways we can show it one to another. Let us stay humble and grateful for the love You have shown us. Remembering that brotherly love is the best love and lasts forever.
In Jesus Name We Pray, Amen
