John 5:39-40 KJV
Man has many ways of saying or estimating that a specified thing will happen in the future.
Knowing the future is uncertain but knowing the One who holds the future is a sure thing.
The Jews, religious leaders of Jesus’ days, considered that eternal life was revealed to them in their Scriptures. That they had it, because they had the word of God in their hands. However, it was with a view to their own glory.
Jesus cautioned them to search those Scriptures with more diligence and attention.
He pointed out to them that they were missing the heart of the matter.
It is possible for men to be very studious in the letter of the Scriptures, yet to be strangers to its power.
That is why the Lord commands all Christians to search the Scriptures. Not only read them, and hear them, but search them.
As another new year is upon us, we will hear many predictions. Some stated with a great deal of confidence and authority. But don’t be worried or alarmed.
We must search the Scriptures and keep our confidence in the One who is the very heart of it all.
He is the only Way, that leads to eternal life.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Lord, let us search and pray over the Scriptures. Receive the knowledge You have for us as we strive to obtain eternal life. Remembering to observe how Christ is the great example of how to apply them to our daily lives. Lives You have bestowed on us all.
