The Ultimate Sacrifice, One That Should Never Be Forgotten

Read: 1 John 2:1-5 / Leviticus 16:5-22

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:2 KJV

What does being a scapegoat mean?

According to Merriam-Webster, it is “one that bears the blame for others” or “one that is the object of irrational hostility.”

Research says that the origin of the word came from a ceremony performed with two goats on the Hebrew Day of Atonement.

A day that we now acknowledge as Yom Kipper.

In Leviticus, Aaron the High Priest was an Advocate with the Father.

He was put in the position of making a plea for the people who were seeking to be pardoned and wanted salvation at that time. (Leviticus 16:7-10 KJV).

A sacrifice unto God for his sins and the sins of the people.

He “cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.”

One was “the goat upon which the LORD’S lot fell, and [was offered] for a sin offering.”

The “goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, [was] presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him,.”

They then “let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.”

The scapegoat was carrying away the blame of sin.

Jesus came to be the scapegoat for our sins.

When you think about the first goat had been sacrificed as a sin offering for God’s people, we acknowledge Jesus as doing the same.

He was the sacrifice His life on the cross for our sins.

The other goat represented complete innocence.

Jesus was completely innocent and free from sin but died on the cross to remove the stain of sin and guilt from our lives.

“He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2 KJV).

Even to this day, none of us is without sin.

There are things in our lives that each of us must change.

Remembering that sin comes in the way we think as well as how we live.

But it is good to know that the Father allowed the “inequities of us all” to fall on Jesus (Isaiah 53:6 KJV).

He paid the price for all our sins.

Jesus took all the blame that we deserved.

Through the Word, He has given us everything we need to change our lives.

When we take the time to read and understand the gospel, our hearts are set in a way that gives us the strength to fight against all sin.

Giving us a chance to change our ways and repent of our sins.

Jesus died for our sins and gave us all the chance for His salvation.

A blessed relief to all who believe.

A WORD OF PRAYER

Father, we know that Jesus is our Savior. The Righteous One who took on a nature pure from sin. The One who obeyed all Your laws and faithfully established righteousness. Laying aside all His glory and becoming a Servant of Love. We are thankful for all He has done. For the fact that we still have a chance to repent of our sins. You are truly the One that saves all our souls.

In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
