And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
2 Chronicles 20:15 KJV
With everything that is going on in the world today, many feel they are left with nothing.
Times when they feel scared and all alone.
They tried to do things their way and the ending was not good.
There will always be a time when those who feel they are self-sufficient will get a wake-up call from God.
They will realize that they have no other resource but Him.
He is the best one that anyone could ever ask for.
The best one to put our hope and trust in.
We know that He is always our help in times of trouble.
We see in today’s reading that the people of Judah found themselves in trouble.
But King Jephoshaphat and the people did not despair.
They knew the situation looked bad.
They acknowledged that they lacked the power and the wisdom to conquer the great multitude that was about to come against them.
They looked at it in many ways.
They knew that all they had left in the way of hope was God.
That is when they began to pray.
They declared unto God, “our eyes are upon thee” (2 Chronicles 20:12 KJV).
“All Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children” (2 Chronicles 20:13 KJV).
Everyone was showing that they had faith.
They kept their faith and hope in the Father.
“Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah…came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation” (2 Chronicles 20:14 KJV).
“(The Spirit of the Lord) said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15 KJV).
Their hope was not disappointed.
It was elevated and gave them the strength they needed to press on.
Anytime we feel all our self-sufficiency is gone we need to turn our eyes to the Lord.
Putting all our hope in Him.
We always have God’s reassuring promise that He is there for us and we need nothing more.
The battle is not ours, but God’s.
He is taking care of it all.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we are thankful that Your Spirit is with us. That it is with us wherever we go. We are Christian soldiers. Knowing that there will be times we must go against a spiritual enemy. That the battle is only won we recognize that You are the God of peace. That with our faith in You, we will be made more than a conquer over them. Let us stay encouraged and keep our trust in You. Giving all the glory to You for our victories.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
