Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. Acts 5:4 KJV
We may tell our family and friends something that is not true and get away with it.
What we fail to remember is that as God’s children we cannot lie and get away with it.
There is nothing that we do in our lifetime that the Father does not see.
In today’s passage we have a good example of why it is in our best interest to be truthful and faithful.
Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, “sold a possession and kept ack part of the price.”
They thought they were getting away with bringing only a portion of it and laying it at the feet of the Apostle Peter and the other believers (Acts 5:1-2 KJV).
But they were far from being right.
The apostle knew what they had done and told them, “Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God” (Acts 5:4 KJV).
Truth is just one of the many attributes of God.
We offend Him when we lie and try to deceive one another.
He sees it all. He uncovers everything that is not the truth.
We all know that the way things are today, we all have been tempted to shade the truth to achieve a goal.
What we must remember is that it is said that short-term gains always lead to long-term losses.
So. whatever lie or sin we have committed; it must be acknowledged.
It must be in this lifetime, otherwise, we will have to do it when we stand before God.
At that point, it is too late.
We all should want to experience the inner freedom that comes when we tell the truth.
A WORD OF PRAYER
Father, we know there is nothing that You do not see or hear. You want the best for us all. When we lie it is just a road that is leading to a life of misery. No matter our situation, let us avoid lying so we can experience the inner freedom You desire for our lives. Following Your ways will always make it possible.
In Jesus’ Name We Pray, Amen
